Rana Begum in conversation

25 February 2019

Visual artist Rana Begum joined us at Asia House on 21 February to discuss her work, which has prompted many to refer to her as one of the most exciting artists working in Britain today.

Begum was in conversation with Anne Barlow, Director of Tate St Ives, who hosted the artist’s solo exhibition in 2018. The Asia House event coincided with the Whitechapel Gallery’s exhibition Is This Tomorrow?, which included Begum’s work. Her work has blurred the boundaries between sculpture, painting and architecture through her redefined language of Minimalist abstraction. Born in Bangladesh and based in London, Begum’s visual language draws from the urban landscape as well as geometric patterns from traditional Islamic art and architecture, with light being fundamental to her process.

This event was part of the Asia House 2019 Winter Arts & Learning Programme
