Young spoken word artists take the stage at the 2018 Poetry Slam

Spoken word artist Jinhao Xie edged a competitive field of talent to be named the winner of the Asia House 2018 Poetry Slam. His poem about being torn between the UK and his homeland received a rapturous reception, with the judges referring to it as “an amazing mix of humour and tenderness”.

Asia House partnered with Spread The Word to find the best new poetry talent, with a shortlist of eight aspiring poets and spoken word artists aged 18-25 chosen to perform their work live at the event.

The winner was selected by judges Momtaza Mehri, Zia Ahmed and Nikita Gill and will recieve a professional development session with Spread the Word.
