Asia House is pleased to announce that Mariam Neza has been promoted to Programme Manager and Curator for the Arts and Learning Department with immediate effect.
Since 2010, Mariam has been co-ordinating a range of events and exhibitions for Asia House with a focus on modern and contemporary cultures of Asia, including: debates, film, literature, education, music and performance. She has curated, managed and delivered the Asia House Summer School programme (2012) along with other themed series, including, the first Asia House Fashion Shows in 2013. She is the dedicated manager of our film festivals and literature festivals, working closely with artists and curators across Asia and in the UK, including former Asia House curators, Betty Yao and Katriana Hazell on major exhibitions such as ‘The Flamboyant Mr Chinnery’ and ‘Restless Ribeiro: An India Artist in Britain’. Mariam was acting Head of Arts and Learning from June-October 2013.
Mariam will be responsible for creating and managing new curatorial projects for the Art and Learning programme, Headed by Pamela Kember.
“We are delighted that Mariam will have further opportunities to foster collaborative projects with a range of artists and practitioners across all art forms and disciplines,” Pamela said. “As an institution open to forging cultural relations with Asia here in London, we are full of anticipation of Mariam’s contribution to the growth and development of new curatorial practices at Asia House.”
The Arts and Learning programme will feature an emerging artists-in-residence scheme, new interdisciplinary dialogues, symposia, performances, fashion, food and exhibitions from leading and emerging artists from Asia and those whose work is informed by cultures from the region.
Mariam said: “I am delighted to continue to work on the renowned Arts and Learning Programme at Asia House, in particular at a time when the programme is seeing so many exciting developments. I am thrilled to be a part of a continuously excelling team at Asia House. With our theme of ‘Transnationalism’ for 2014, I look forward to curating new exhibitions as part of the programme.”
