Join award-winning British-Egyptian poet, playwright and performer Sabrina Mahfouz in conversation with prominent writers Leila Aboulela, Selma Dabbagh and Samira Shackle, as they share their thoughts on being a Muslim woman living in the UK today.
At the heart of the conversation will be The Things I Would Tell You: British Muslim Women Write, a groundbreaking collection of stories and poems, edited by Mahfouz and set to be published by Saqi Books in April 2017. Aboulela, Dabbagh and Shackle are among the contributors.
From established literary heavyweights to emerging spoken word artists, the writers in the collection blow away the narrow image of the ‘Muslim Woman’. The collection transcends time and place, revealing just how varied the search for belonging can be.
Chaired by journalist and literary critic Arifa Akbar, this event is sure to enlighten, engage and empower. A book signing and drinks reception will follow.
