Born to re-imagine Indian fashion and design without preconceived notions, Raw Mango was founded by Indian designer Sanjay Garg in 2008 and has since grown to be a label relevant not just in India but across the globe.
Raw Mango is a brand of contemporary Indian hand-woven textiles crafted using traditional Indian weaving techniques. The brand’s saris, fabrics and stoles reflect the skills of the more than 450 craftspeople the label employs in India.
Garg will showcase Raw Mango’s collections at this exhibition for patrons and enthusiasts of the brand.
Today, Raw Mango is not only synonymous with a refined fashion aesthetic but also with the revival of India’s handloom and textile heritage. Raw Mango is not just about the designs but a larger programme that has managed to uplift an entire community of weavers by creating a new value for an existing product category by making it contemporary whilst being firmly rooted in tradition.
With two stand-alone stores in India and availability across many countries through multi-designer stores, it is only fitting for Garg to share his passion for handloom and fashion with the tastemakers in the United Kingdom.
About Raw Mango
Raw Mango was born to re-imagine Indian fashion and design without preconceived notions. Colours and designs from Raw Mango find their roots in Indian philosophy and traditions.
Raw Mango is not just about the designs but also about a larger program that has managed to uplift an entire community by creating a new value for an existing and ignored product – the humble sari. Handloom saris, though worn everyday by large numbers of women all over India, are relegated to an area perceived to have little scope for new explorations and innovations. At Raw Mango, they have adapted traditional designs to make them simple, sophisticated and distinctly contemporary, thereby creating a fresh new aesthetic that is both indigenous and modern, at once.
