Reflection of Silence UK Tour

Persian Classical Music to celebrate Norouz (Iranian New Year)

Hossein Alishapour : Vocal

Mehdi Rostami : Setar

Adib Rostami : Tombak

Following on from the success of last year’s recital and as part of their UK tour, Reflection of Silence, the renowned Mehdi Rostami (Setar) and Adib Rostami (Tombak) will put on an improvised performance based on Iranian classical repertoire with a contemporary approach. This time they are joined by one of the greatest Iranian vocalists of the new generation, Hossein Alishapour. This performance is known as Saz o Avaz, which is the oldest format of Iranian classical music performance.

Iranian classical music has experienced significant changes over the last 30 years, partly through a new confidence among those musicians willing to explore new musical avenues. Poetry has played a central role in Iranian culture for centuries. At times when Persian language and identity were under assault, it was poetry in particular that kept the essence of the culture alive. The music is deeply rooted and imbued with a sense of tradition and continuity, but at the same time they speak with a contemporary voice.
