Guided tour of Asia House
No booking required
Asia House will participate in this year’s Open House London weekend programme, when inspiring landmark and listed buildings in the city are open to the public often with a behind-the scenes look at the key architectural features that make these buildings unique. This year Open House London, the city’s greatest showcase of architecture and design, takes place from 20 September to 21 September.
During that weekend, guided tours will be given throughout each day around the array of interiors at Asia House, a striking late 18th century townhouse in the heart of Marylebone. Designed by John Johnson (1732-1814) a Georgian architect and former County Surveyor of Essex, No. 63 New Cavendish Street, is one of a pair of surviving town houses, which includes features such as a Coade Stone façade and series of Fine Rooms with painted ceilings and relief figure medallions. The library is a later addition to the site, and designed by Sir John Soane.
Informal tours of the building will take place throughout the weekend as well as the opportunity to wander through the rooms and take in the many distinguishing features of one of Johnson’s rare town houses still to be discovered in the heart of the city.
Pamela Kember, Head of Arts and Learning at Asia House, will conduct the guided tours. This is free and open to the public on a walk-in basis.
Asia House will be open for guided tours as follows:
Saturday 20 September 10am to 5pm
Sunday 21 September 11am to 5pm
