Panel discussion on Iranian Architecture
Award-winning Iranian architects and designers Mehran Gharleghi and Amin Sadeghy showcase their research on a series of carefully selected buildings in Iran through their exhibition at Asia House.
To launch the exhibition, Mehran Gharleghi and Amin Sadeghy will be joined for a panel discussion by Danny Whitehead, Director at the British Council, musician and filmmaker Roxana Vilk, author, journalist and broadcaster Kamin Mohammadi and The Courtauld Institute of Art’s Asian art scholar Dr Sussan Babaie, during an evening to explore the evolution of architecture in Iran with perspectives from our expert panellists. The discussion will be chaired by Stephan Roman, British Council Regional Director South Asia.
The exhibition reveals sustainable strategies devised by Persian master builders and leads the audience through a set of visually stunning art work and prototypes. The contemporary application of this research will be showcased through a number of architectural and design projects.
Has rapid urbanisation, coupled with trends of globalisation, considerably transformed the sophisticated and context specific Iranian architecture? Has its history of integrated expression and functionality been wiped away without trace, like elsewhere? In search of answers to these questions, the panelists seek to illustrate a number of thought-provoking aspects of historical and contemporary Iranian architecture.
Evolution: Art and Architecture exhibition runs from 14 April until 24 April 2015 and is open for the public Monday to Friday 10:00 – 18:00 with free admission. This exhibition is part of the British Council’s UK-Iran Season of Culture.
