Discovering the art of the oud

Discovering the art of the oud

20 March 2019

Joseph Tawadros, world-renowned player and composer, joined us at Asia House on 19 March to introduce us to the art of the oud, the ancient Middle Eastern lute. In this solo concert, Joseph charmed the audience with his original compositions, interspacing them with anecdotes about his inspiration behind the pieces.

Joseph has performed in Australia and Japan with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms Dubai. He also performed a solo oud recital with original music for the BBC Proms at London’s Cadogan Hall, making him the first music artist to present a solo concert of original contemporary music for the Proms.

In an unforgettable evening, where traditional Arabic melodies met jazz and classical music, Joseph succeeded in winning over the audience and having them yearn for more.

If you missed out on the concert, watch this sneak peak of Joseph’s work – filmed at Asia House earlier this year
