Celebrating Georgian poet Vazha Pshavela

Celebrating Georgian poet Vazha Pshavela
06 March 2019
Asia House celebrated all things Georgian on Friday 1 March when it hosted a cultural evening featuring art, poetry and song.
‘Unveiling Vazha Pshavela: Stories and Artworks Inspired by the Poet’ saw Donald Rayfield OBE, who has translated the works of Vazha Pshavela into English, discuss the famed Georgian poet with artist Andro Semeiko, editor of a new book on the writer.
Her Excellency Tamar Beruchashvili, the Ambassador of Georgia to the UK, gave a speech to open the event, which also saw Golden Globe and BAFTA winning actress Dame Siân Phillips read selected poems and the Maspindzeli Choir entertain guests with Georgian polyphonic singing.
An art installation by Semeiko was also on display and traditional Georgian cuisine was served during the evening.
This event was part of the Asia House 2019 Winter Arts & Learning Programme
