Asia House’s Juan De Lara joins the Steering Committee for the Arab Award for Culture

11 June 2019

Asia House Culture Programme Manager, Juan De Lara, has been invited to sit on the Steering Committee for the Arab Award for Culture, a biennial prize that celebrates contributions to Arab arts and culture in the UK.

Established in 2008, the Arab Award for Culture provides financial support to those who have furthered dialogue and understanding of the Arab world in the UK, as well as raised awareness of contemporary Arab culture through their work. It has previously been granted to Saqi Books, Zaytoun, Liverpool Arab Arts Festival, Al Jazeera English, playwrights Hassan Abdul Razak and Hannah Khalil, and Arts Canteen. As part of the Steering Committee, De Lara will be part of the panel reviewing applications for the 2019 Award shortlist.

“The Arab British Centre has been delivering a fantastic service to the UK community in promoting and raising awareness on Arab culture, and we are very proud to have delivered some events together over the years,” said Juan. “The Arab Award for Culture is an important recognition for many talented individuals and organisations. It has been a true privilege to go through some of this year’s applications already, which are incredibly good. This year the judges will have a difficult time choosing the winner!”
