Food Programme

Explore Asian cultures by expanding your culinary horizons

At Asia House we celebrate the potential for food to help us understand and appreciate countries and regions.

Our food events include dining experiences, tastings, cookery demonstrations and talks by chefs and experts to give our audience a more complete understanding of the vast array of Asian cuisines and what they tell us about societies and cultures.

In the past we have welcomed Ken Hom, Ching He Huang,  Madhur Jaffrey, Atul Kochhar, Sri Owen, David Thompson, Chef Wan and William Wongso.

In addition to food programming, Asia House holds the Yan Kit So Memorial Award for Asian Food Writers. Yan-Kit So (1933-2001) was Britain’s leading authority on Chinese cuisine and a passionate supporter of Asia House. She went on to win major awards such as the prestigious André Simon Award for her first book Classic Chinese Cookbook  and the Glenfiddich Best Cookbook of the Year Award.

The Yan Kit So Memorial Award  was established in her memory to provide a bursary to support  aspiring food writers to travel to Asia to pursue a cookbook.

The recipient of the 2015 award is SOAS food anthropology doctoral student Celia Plender who will travel to Japan to research regional Japanese cuisine.
