Technological advances are blurring the boundaries between what is real and unreal. This film takes a look into a future that is already here, holding a mirror up to a reality in which humans are replaced by robots, and the real world is perfectly simulated in digital form.

Roll up! Roll up! The Sonepur Mela (Fair), in Bihar state, East India, is about to begin. Held every year on the sacred full moon day of Kartika Purnima, it is the largest animal market in Asia, where cattle, elephants, birds, horses and camels have been traded for centuries. It is also the site of a massive carnival, featuring spectacular displays of horsemanship, daredevil motorcycle stunts, voluptuous dancers and pounding music a sensual world where the atmosphere is electric.

Cédric Dupire and Gaspard Kuentz (directors of We Don’t Care About Music Anyway, a film about the Japanese ‘noise music’ scene) take the viewer on the ride of a lifetime, an overwhelming sensory trip led by the symbolic faces of the fair: the Rider, the Exorcist, the Dancer, the Stuntman and the Mahout elephant tamer.
